Sky ultimately wrecked my entire December tbr, but in the very best way. I am still working on a post to highlight just how much of an incredible journey it was, and should have that up shortly. December wasn't the best reading month for me, I would've liked to have read more. Especially with starting the semster again soon, but, I did really enjoy all three books that I did read.
A Sky Beyond the Storm by Sabaa Tahir
☆☆☆☆☆ The ending to the Ember quartet. I have still not emotionally recovered, and don't think I ever truly will. Sabaa Tahir’s writing style is something entirely in its own league. She is the most whimsical, beautifully spoken, fluid story teller I’ve ever encountered. This series along with its characters will stay with me throughout my life. This is such a journey of overcoming fear, facing your demons, and learning how and what love is, and how it can both heal and destroy. I don’t think I will ever emotionally recover from this book and ending. It’s the best book I have ever read and the best finale to series. I am so sad to say goodbye to all of my favorite characters and this world Sabaa has built, but it was one hell of a ride. And I’m so thankful for her sharing this much needed story to the world. Sabaa Tahir is a true Kehanni. Where there is life, there is hope.
When a Scot Ties a Knot by Tessa Dare
☆☆☆☆ This was a nice, fluffy read that I needed after the heaviness of Sky lol. This was such a wholesome (yet somewhat predictable) book. Captain Mackenzie is just a Scottish DREAM. I enjoyed both his and Madeline's characters, even though sometimes I just wanted to shout out them for both being naïve to each others true feelings and intent. I love a good historical romance and that's exactly what this gave me. I definitely look forward to reading more of Tessa Dare's novels. If I don’t find myself a tall, handsome, brooding, soft, Scottish man who will whisper endearing words to me in Gaelic while we make love and also refer to me as “mo chridhe” (my heart)...then what’s the point?!?
Daughter of the Salt King by A.S. Thornton
☆☆☆☆ I received a copy of this through NetGalley and was so happy that I did. This book literally transported me. If you love your books with a strong female MC, forbidden love, the comfort of friendship, and the complexity of family, with a dash of capricious magic and a touch of darkness, then this is the book for you! The setting of this book is just magical. It literally carries you inside this ancient desert; you can feel the sun on your back, the sand between your toes, and the heat that seems to stick to your skin. The environment was luscious and very atmospherical, from the colorful tents and clothing to the different foods and drinks, it was truly an immersive experience. Not to mention, the two love-interests Saalim and Emel, are EVERYTHING. Watching their relationship progress and having to overcome a lot, was fantastic. It felt very natural and organic with the flow of the story and I just absolutely loved them. The ending is quite the cliffhanger and I am counting down the days until we get the second installment! Make sure to grab your copy in February!
